About Dr. LaSota

I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2008.  For the next 16 years, I worked full-time in university counseling. Most recently, I was a Staff Psychologist at the Catholic University of America's Counseling Center, from 2010-2024, where I served as the Director of Internship Training since 2017. Having worked with university students for the majority of my professional life, I have a particular interest and expertise working with adolescents and young adults, appreciating the unique developmental challenges faced by members of this population. However, I would also consider myself a "generalist" in that I am able to work effectively with individuals from a broad age, demographic, and diagnostic range.

My theoretical orientation is an integrative blend of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy that includes Interpersonal Therapy, mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.  Much of my prior training and research focused on understanding and treating OCD and anxiety disorders, with a specific emphasis on perfectionism. Other key areas of clinical interest are depression, relationship concerns, masculinity, multicultural stress, and aspects of privilege.

Philosophy of Treatment

I believe that true, lasting change occurs when you are aware of how your suffering functions in your life and you are ready to tolerate the discomfort necessary for growth. My role is to provide expertise in helping you to navigate the terrain of your life's journey, while providing support, strategies, and the occasional shortcut (or rest stop) along the way.

Just as the smallest sapling cannot thrive to become a mature tree without periods of rain, sunlight, and darkness, I believe we can become our "better selves" once we learn to embrace the storm and anchor ourselves to our own unique firmer ground.
